Stevie and Shanny's radio interview
Recap by Christy
*Mitch was saying he needs to catch Steve when he can, because he of the baby, then he was talking about them showing the doctor in the stands, his job was the keeper of the beeper
Shanny: My job is to boil the water.
Mitch: And Steve, what's your job?
Steve: I've done my job already.
* Sandra, if you heard this next part, I hope you weren't driving when you heard it.
Mitch said something about Steve having babies every year and if he's going to have more
Steve: As it looks now, this will be the last one.
Mitch: No son?
Steve: No, we wanted to have 3 kids, I'm thrilled.
* They talked about playoff time, Steve said he tries not to think about hockey untill he's at the rink.
*Mitch said when he was at Tuesday's game, searching for quotes, to his surprise, he saw Lisa at the game, walking aroung with Brendan's wife.
Steve: She figures it's her last night out for a few months.
*Mitch was talking about how everyone knows Lisa, when she's at a game she couldn't stand up and yell at a referee or create a scene because everybody knows who she is.
Steve: Oh she wouldn't throw much of a fit. Going to a game is a social event for her, a night out, more than a hockey game, a chance to catch up on the gossip.
* Mitch asked if the wives say anything about all the cuts to the face Steve or Shanny have
Steve said Lisa's gotten used to it, he said something about Lisa told him to put on a visor this year.
*Mitch said Stevie and Lisa and Shanny and Catherine are good friends and go out together a lot. Mitch asked what they talk about?
Stevie and Shanny said don't talk about hockey very much but Shanny said they sometimes play GM and talk about trading this guy for that guy.
Mitch: What do you do then?
Steve: We mostly go out to movies together, nothing really exciting....
Shanny: Wait until I tell my wife that, we think it's really exciting but now I know Steve and Lisa are really bored stiff.
Steve: We have a lot of fun but we aren't solving the problems of the world or anything.
Mitch: Well who does?
*During playoffs are they aware of the news of the world?
Steve said yes but they miss a lot, they spend most of their free time going to movies.
Shanny: This is not a good time for movies right now but if we go far in the playoffs then the summer blockbusters are out and we get to see them.
* Is going for the Cup the third time more or less difficult?
Steve: About the same, but it's more difficult this year because Dallas and Colorado are both still around, the other years there were upsets and one of them got knocked off.
*Mitch said Steve looks like he could play forever.
Steve: I haven't thought about ending, when you struggle sometimes you think I don't know how much longer I want to do this for.
*They talked about him doing so well
Steve: It's my wingers, Holmer is great! And that other guy.
*Mitch said when they score and celebrate what is up with that head pat, what do you say "good boy?"
Steve: You don't really think about what you're doing....
Shanny: You've been hitting me in the head kind of hard lately.
*Mitch said after they score and the players are on the bench they're always spitting.
Steve: It's an awful habit everyone has.
*Mitch asked Steve "what happens if Lisa goes into labour before the game or during the game?"
Steve: Then I'm here at the hospital or I go and get her.
Mitch: You're out of the game?
Steve: Yeah.
Mitch: That's OK with her and with you?
Steve: Yeah, I want to be there for it. That's the important thing. I was there for my first 2 daughter's births. When Isabella was born, she was crying, obviously all babies cry when they come out, I spoke to her and she stopped crying, they can't see when they're born I guess, she opened her eyes and heard my voice, because I talked to her during the pregnancy the whole time, she stopped crying when she heard my voice and I just held her for a bit. So I want to be there. I was there for Maria's birth.
Mitch: You lucked out with Maria, she was born just before the playoffs
Steve: Actually Lisa was induced just before the playoffs, with Maria.
Mitch said there was a football player who missed a game to be at the birth of his child and lost his job because of it, it's not a given to do what Steve's suggesting to do.
Steve: It's a personal thing for everybody. Some people would and some wouldn't. I really don't care what other people think of it. I'm doing the right thing.
*Mitch: Does Isabella still stop crying when you start talking?
Steve: Depends on what I'm saying
Shanny: We have some players on the team that cry when he starts talking.
Steve: I'm not very nice to some people.
*Mitch: Have you made any speeches this year?
Steve: No speeches.
Shanny: There was that one when we wanted to see this one movie but you said no lets see the "Mummy", guys didn't want to see the "Mummy" but you rallied us.
*Mitch thanked them for doing the interview, they joke around a lot but they are really doing a great job and it's good to see that you're friends however if anyone envied the conversations between the Yzermans and the Shanahan's now you know there is really nothing said of interest.
Steve: I didn't mean to slight anyone....
Mitch: That's alright.
Steve: It's just that this show...
Shanny: (laughing) You don't need to apologize! He's just teasing you.
Steve: I didn't want to bore him with mundane conversation.
