Yzerman
says Notre Dame could save hockey?

If they haven't been
able to do more for their football team, how are they going to
save hockey?
Nevertheless, that's
the onus Red Wings exec Steve Yzerman put on defending CCHA champion
Notre Dame at the school's annual "Drop the Puck" reception
for its hockey team Wednesday night.
"You don't know how important the success of this team is
to not just hockey in Indiana, but hockey in the United States,"
said Yzerman, the South Bend Tribune reported. "With the
alumni base and fan base that Notre Dame has across the country,
this team could bring a lot of exposure to the sport."
That especially goes
for coach Jeff Jackson, formerly of Lake Superior State and the
USA Hockey development program in Ann Arbor.
"Not to put
any pressure on you, Coach, but it's true," Yzerman chuckled.
"It's up to you to save hockey in the United States."
All this drew cheers
from the crowd. "I think we found a new Hockeytown here,"
Yzerman said.
Blasphemy! We'll
talk when they start calling that mural He Shoots He Scores Jesus.
